The Rev. Marshall A. Jolly, Rector

The Rev. Marshall A. Jolly was called as the 26th rector of Grace Episcopal Church in May 2015. A native of Paris, Kentucky, he earned a BA in American studies from Transylvania University and a Master of Divinity and Certificate in Anglican Studies from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, where he is also completing doctoral work. His published work includes essays on Christian social engagement, theology in the public square, and preaching, appearing most recently in the Journal of Appalachian Studies and the Anglican Theological Review.  He is also a frequent contributor to The Episcopal Digital Network’s Sermons that Work series. A youth, adult, and collegiate soccer referee, Marshall  enjoys poetry, folk music, art, and most of all, spending time with his wife Elizabeth.

Rev. Deacon Michael Jenkins, Parish Deacon

The Rev. Dcn. Michael Jenkins, Deacon

The Rev. Deacon Michael Jenkins has served as the Deacon at Grace Episcopal Church since 2010. A “cradle Episcopalian” and a lifelong member of the Diocese of Western North Carolina, Deacon Mike has been a deacon for 16 years. He has been involved in the Towel Ministry, a housing rehabilitation and refurbishing ministry for the past 25 years. He loves working with youth and playing guitar for camps, Vacation Bible School, and outdoor services. He and his wife Kay live right outside Morganton and are managed by a dog, 2 cats, and 3 horses.

 

Jacques

Jacques Geitner, Parish Administrator

Jacques Geitner and his wife Diane have been members of Grace Church since 2002, and he has served as Parish Administrator since 2008. Prior to that he owned a printing company in Hickory. Jacques and Diane live in the wilds of greater Icard, with an ever-changing collection of animals. They have two sons, Daniel and Jack, and two grandchildren whom they get don’t get to see nearly enough.

M Franklin

Molly C. Franklin, Director of Children & Youth Ministries

Molly C. Franklin is a native of Morganton. She began her career in children and youth ministry at the age of 14 as a mentor to 5-10 year olds in The American Adventure Service Corps.  After graduating with honors from Patton High School, she went on to work for three years with Camp Arrowhead for boys, an all boys Christian adventure camp where she developed a passion for teaching and sharing “God’s Big Story.” She is a graduate of UNC Charlotte with degrees in both English and Criminology and enjoys playing board games, walking her two Labrador retrievers, and planning and executing adventures.

Nancy Taylor, Choirmaster

Nancy W. Taylor, Choirmaster

Nancy W. Taylor is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Morganton in 1990. She began the study of piano at the age of five and the study of organ at the age of 12. At the age of 14, Nancy became a student at the Peabody Preparatory studying both voice and piano. She graduated from The Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in voice performance. She furthered her studies in Graz, Austria, participating in the Voice Performance Program at The American Institute of Musical Studies. Nancy pursued independent vocal studies at Indiana University with Eileen Farrell, a well known American dramatic soprano. Throughout her career, Nancy sang in multiple school and church choirs and has been a featured soloist in various venues and served as a soprano soloist in numerous churches. Nancy currently serves as the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Burke County.

Jennifer Bagley, Organist

Jennifer Bagley came to North Carolina in 2007 from Mississippi, by way of Florida and New York. She began playing the piano when she was 6 years old and has recently added organ to her instrument repertoire. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Delta State University and a Master of Music in Music Therapy from Florida State University. Her day job is as a music therapist at a state psychiatric hospital. Jennifer loves music and the joy and therapeutic value it holds. She has been married for 9 1/2 years, and her daughters are the light of her life.
